Grooming Skills
About the program
Grooming skills are one of the key aspects in the aviation industry where professionals get on board and face customers. Therefore, the staff needs to maintain a well-groomed appearance that adds to their overall image of safety and professionalism. Be a ground staff, or any other personnel from any department within the aviation sector, they all need to consider the below-given aspects of grooming skills.
Uniform:
The staff needs to follow the uniform standards set by the airline as it is a crucial part of the aviation sector. The uniform includes wearing attire properly, clean, well-fitted, and free from wrinkles or visible wear.
Personal Hygiene:
Aviation professionals are mandated to maintain good personal hygiene by ensuring regular showers, dental care, and the use of deodorant besides adherence to cleanliness standards. These aspects add to their personality and present them positively and professionally.
Hair-care:
The aviation professionals are suggested to have neat, well-groomed, and styled hair, meeting the airline’s standards. Those having long hair must tie their hair back. No extreme hairstyles or colors are allowed on the airlines.
Facial Hair:
Male professionals, who keep facial hair, are suggested to keep it wellgroomed, adhering to the guidelines set by the airline. While some airlines allow regular shaving, some permit only a neat and clean beard.
Makeup (Female members only):
Female ground staff, who need to face the passengers, are suggested to wear makeup, as per the grooming standards. They also need to be moderate in order to enhance their professional appearance.
Nail Care:
The professionals are asked to keep their nails clean, trimmed, and wellmaintained besides if someone is wearing nail polish, she must have it subtly, adhering to the guidelines set by the airline.
Jewelry and Accessories:
Airlines have a given set of guidelines related to the wearing of jewelry and accessories. Several airlines allow minimal and subtle jewelry to ensure professionalism and a safety-conscious appearance.
Fragrance:
Airline staff need to use fragrance sparingly as strong perfumes or colognes may turn out to be overwhelming in enclosed spaces, such as aircraft cabins.
Fitness and Body Posture:
There are several roles in the aviation ecosystem for which physical fitness becomes necessary. These professionals need to maintain a healthy lifestyle to ensure they perform their duties effectively and pay attention to their posture because it adds to their polished and professional appearance.
Tattoos and Piercings:
Airlines establish regulations regarding visible tattoos and piercings. The staff needs to ensure compliance with the given standards.
Cultural Sensitivity:
The aviation industry involves international travel as well and, thus, it also requires engaging with international travelers. Simultaneously, it becomes necessary to be culturally sensitive about the grooming standards and the staff need to understand and respect the cultural norms of the regions that they visit or work in.
Uniform Care:
The airline staff need to take good care of their uniform and adhere to the instructions related to washing and maintenance. It is pertinent to mention that grooming standards may vary among different airlines and are crucial to familiarize the staff with the specific policies. These skills add to a positive impression of the staff.
